Kaleidoscope Frost by Ruthenium

This piece, Kaleidoscope Frost, reminds me of how my own mind can act and feel: at times colorful and bright, in other moods murky and frightening. In my own recent exploration of my gender (or lack thereof), there are moments of bright euphoria and self-discovery, and days when my thoughts twist on themselves and I question what I know or thought I knew. The textures, colors, and depths of light and shadow in the piece aren’t just parts of the natural elements the image is originally created from, but reflect our own perceptions of thoughts, emotions, identity, time, and so on.”

— Ruthenium (they/them) is an artist currently living in the state of uncertainty. They believe creativity is real-life magic, and are obsessed with texture, context, light, and the question “what if?…” Their art has been published in Rabble Review, Celestite Poetry, Vulnerary Magazine, Messy Misfits Magazine, and Warning Lines Literary, among other wonderful places. Their various presences and publications can be found at
